SHA was created in the year 1985 and since then we have catered free of costs for people with
disabilities. Currently, we have around 100 learners aged 2 years to 20+. Our mission is to
enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities by providing them with essential services,
resources, and opportunities for personal growth and inclusion in society. We firmly believe
that everyone, regardless of their abilities, deserves equal access to education, healthcare,
employment, and social inclusion.
Our organization at Surinam (Riambel) caters to 60 students from five to twenty years of
age and our space is limited for more learners.
As per the regulations of the Ministry of Education, schools are required to cater for a
specific chronological age of learners (5-20 years) but when it comes to the disability sector,
the regulation completely ignores the mental age of the learners. They are forced to stay at
home after 20 years and due to lack of space, we are not able to cater fully to all students.
Furthermore, we have obtained several admissions this year and we wish to further extend
our services to a higher number of people.
In this regard, we are planning to upgrade our existing building by construction of the 1st
Floor of our school located at Coastal Road Riambel Surinam. All necessary permits have
been obtained from relevant authorities, and detailed plans as well are attached.
Build new classroom for students at the 1st floor
1/ Lack of classroom for learners with disabilities 2/Lack of suitable rooms for therapy 3/Lack of rooms for training purposes 4/ Increase in the number of learners with disabilities
Creation of more space by constructing the 1st floor with more than 7 rooms for people with disabilities
1. More classrooms for students where more services can be provided 2/ Increase space for learners 3/ More training and programmes can be initiated
1/ Good education of learners with disabilities 2/ Aligning with the UNCRPD and SDGs 3/ More employability of people with disabilities 4/ Impact on families and society in general by breaking of taboo
