Paint to Educate - School Mural Painting Campaign

About - Paint to Educate Project

Team Partaz Enn Sourire is looking for volunteer artists willing to participate in School Mural Painting campaign in the District of Savanne. The project is geared towards using Art as a form of communication to educate, sensitize and create awareness on life values & social issues for school kids as much as for all the stakeholders in the community. Art projects come and go; but murals are here to stay. They are a legacy, a means for students, staffs, and the people to communicate from generation to generation. We believe murals can be used as an artistic dialogue serving to educate, inspire and empower present and future student populations.

The Science Behind Use of Wall School Murals

There's a lot of science that backs using wall murals in schools. For example:

Approximately 65% of the population are visual learners

Research shows that we process visual information about 60,000 times faster than text

Dr Lynell Burmark, Ph.D. Associate at the Thornburg Centre for Professional Development visual learning and co-author of ‘Visual Literacy: Learn to See, See to Learn’, says that, “Unless our words, concepts, ideas are hooked onto an image, they will go in one ear, sail through the brain, and go out the other ear.”

In other words, visuals not only help more pupils learn faster, but they also help pupils retain information longer.

Objectives

  1. A quick list of the objectives are:
  2. Positive Messaging - Inspirational phrases/ Empowering Words that can help redirect focus and attention.
  3. Place Activation - By painting a mural it can change the atmosphere of the space it is painted.
  4. Mind Programming - Seeing positive/ empowering words continuously for a certain period of time leads to a brain/subconscious programming of beliefs which we want to influence by making it a positive one.

We are sharing some pictures from the internet which we would wish to see on the school murals. In case the team of volunteer artists have their own ideas to convey then it will be around the below chosen themes:

  • Be the 'I' in Kind
  • Go Green - Only One Earth
  • Celebrate Diversity & Inclusivity
  • Aspire to Greatness
  • A timeline of Mauritius History
  • Strength & Happiness Lies in Unity
  • Biodiversity - Building a shared life for all life
  • You Are Unique - Leave your Mark

Be part of this first of its kind project in Mauritius and join us to create a better world for our kids. People may say our generation isn't going to amount to anything, but we believe with a little creativity and help, we can all play an active part in the kind of society we want to be a part of!

Be The Difference, Paint to Educate 🌈

Donation for Water Fountain

Future Hope is an association founded in 2013. The main objective was to cater for the needs of children who cannot follow the normal school syllabus and who would have been left on their own (unattended) and who would inevitably become “street children”. They are looked after at Future Hope and get daily breakfast and lunch for those who attend the day school (within normal school hours (09h00 – 14h00). Most of these kids come from poor family backgrounds. Future Hope also has four other “learning” centers situated in Sainte Croix, Roches Bois, Cite La Cure & Petite Riviere. These three centers operate after school hours from 15h30 to 17h00 and are run by volunteers who freely spare their time to accompany the children after school hours.

We are looking for water fountains which will be placed on the school premises to offer drinkable water to students and children coming to the school.
