Earth Day 2023

Earth Day is celebrated worldwide on April 22nd each year, and Mauritius is no exception. This day serves as a reminder to take care of our planet and to promote sustainability for the sake of future generations. Here are some ways in which Earth Day is celebrated in Mauritius:

  1. Beach cleanups: Mauritius is known for its beautiful beaches but these beaches are also vulnerable to pollution.
  2. Tree planting: Trees play a vital role in regulating the climate and providing oxygen. On Earth Day, many organisations and individuals plant trees as a symbol of their commitment to the environment.
  3. Recycling: Recycling is an important aspect of sustainability and Earth Day is a great opportunity to promote recycling initiatives.
  4. Education and awareness: Earth Day is also a time to educate and raise awareness about environmental issues.

"Anou Marse Ek Sov Nu Mama Later" Campaign:

In a bid to raise awareness about the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and promoting a healthier lifestyle, the "Anou Marse Ek Sov Nu Mama Later" campaign was launched. The campaign, organized in partnership with the Southern Handicapped Association and the AnAngel community, aimed to encourage people of all ages, races, and physical abilities to walk more and use personal transportation less.

The campaign was truly inclusive, with people of all ages, races, and physical abilities taking part. From school children to senior citizens, everyone joined hands with the common goal of promoting a healthier, greener future. Participants even shared their screenshots, showing their daily progress, on social media, inspiring others to join in and make a difference.

Earth Day serves as a wake-up call for all of us, urging us to take action and work towards creating a more sustainable future. Let us continue to work together and inspire others to take action, as we strive towards a cleaner, greener, and healthier planet.
